Obituary, Patricia Zitko, Ohio Eye Associates Mourns the Passing of Dr. Patricia M. Zitko
Ohio Eye Associates is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved colleague, Dr. Patricia M. “Pat” Zitko. Dr. Pat passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, May 11, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was 69.
A woman of profound faith, a devoted wife and mother, and a highly respected optometrist, Dr. Zitko dedicated her life to serving others. Born in Dayton and raised in Sandusky, her journey to optometry was a testament to her lifelong passion for care. She initially earned degrees in nursing from Kent State and The Ohio State University, working and teaching in the field for several years. Inspired by her sister, she later pursued optometry, graduating from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 1992.
Dr. Zitko joined the practice of Winbigler and Zitko in Shelby in 1997, where she became a cornerstone of eye care for the community. Following the practice’s acquisition by Ohio Eye Associates in 2015, she continued her full-time service until her retirement in 2022. For over 25 years, she provided exceptional care to thousands of patients in Shelby, Plymouth, and surrounding areas.
More than her clinical expertise, Dr. Pat will be remembered for her compassionate spirit, genuine kindness, and the personal attention she gave to every patient and coworker. She was a calming presence, a trusted friend, and a valued colleague who touched countless lives. Her legacy is one of unwavering dedication, helping others see the world more clearly, both literally and through her warmth and empathy.
This loss is deeply felt by our entire practice. Our heartfelt condolences go to her husband, Dr. Phil Zitko, her son, Dr. Tom Zitko, and all her family, friends, and patients.
